Will there be a Core Edition of Lineage Strings?

At the moment it has not been decided whether or not there will be a Core Edition of Lineage Strings. If you are excited about the idea of a Core Edition, let us know!

Can the Arranger be used in Live Mode?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Arranger works in Live Mode too, although chord detection is a bit more forgiving in Lookahead Mode. If you use the Arranger in Live Mode, a small 50 ms delay is added to detect chords.

Can Lineage Strings be used in Live Mode only?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can use Lineage Strings without ever switching to Lookahead Mode. Non-legato sequences will sound just as good. With legato lines, however, you won’t get the added realism that Lookahead Mode offers. In Live Mode, you also won’t be able to use Adaptive Phrasing: the automatic articulation switching based on note lengths.

Why should I get Lineage Strings if I already own Symphobia?

Lineage Strings is a dedicated string library offering a consistent set of articulation for all five sections. The Symphobia libraries focus on ensemble recordings, with the strings recorded as a whole, and only a select few articulations available for individual sections.

Lineage Strings also offers many features that Symphobia doesn’t, such as the Arranger, naturally distributing your notes across the five sections, and Adaptive Phrasing, automatically switching articulations based on note lengths.

Let’s also consider library sizes: Symphobia 1 + 2 combined are 44 GB for the entire orchestra. Lineage Strings is 150 GB for just strings. If we look at a single microphone set, then Symphobia 1 + 2 combined add up to 22 GB for the entire orchestra, whereas Lineage Strings is 37 GB for strings only.

Does Lineage Strings consist of 100% new recordings?

Yes! For Lineage Strings we recorded 100% new material that is not included in any of our other libraries.

Does Lineage Strings have portamento?

Accepted Answer

Lineage Strings has a subtle, simulated portamento which is triggered at low velocities. The lower the velocity, the stronger the portamento effect.

Are there any special effects in Lineage Strings?

Accepted Answer

No. For orchestral effects such as glissandi and clusters, please take a look at Symphobia 1, Symphobia 2 and Pandora.

What is the size of the string section?

For Lineage Strings we recorded a 35-player string section: 11/9/7/5/3.

Does Lineage Strings include soloists?

Accepted Answer

No. Lineage Strings does not feature solo string players.

How many dynamics and round robins have been recorded?

Accepted Answer

We recorded 4 dynamic layers for longs and 3 layers for shorts. We recorded 8 round robins for shorts and 2 for longs. You can find more recording details in the Instruments tab.

How much RAM do I need for Lineage Strings?

Here is an overview of how much RAM different elements in the library need:
• Violin 1 section in 1 mic, all articulations: 1 GB
• Violin 1 section in 3 mics, all articulations: 3 GB
• Arranger in 1 mic, all articulations: 4 GB
• Arranger in 1 mic, shorts only: 0.8 GB
